SASI Board of Directors Vice President Ben Gerber, M.D., M.P.H., is going the extra mile for SASI: he’s dedicating his Bank of America 2013 Chicago Marathon run to SASI and is asking fans to show their support by making contributions to fund SASI’s services.

Otherwise known for his accomplishments as a physician and medical researcher, Ben is an avid runner and a formidable fundraiser for causes he holds dear. A competitive runner since 2006, Ben currently runs four to five times a week, including a weekend long run of at least 10-12 miles, a regimen he’ll ramp up as the time draws closer to the race date on October 13. He has twice run the Chicago Marathon—in 2009 and 2012—as a member of the Diabetes Action Team (Diabetes Action Research and Education Foundation/DAREF). This year Ben hopes to raise $5,000 for SASI. Please show your support for Ben and SASI by making a secure, tax-deductible gift here with your Visa, Mastercard or Discover credit card.

Asked why SASI will be the fortunate recipient of his Chicago Marathon efforts this year, Ben says, “During the past year serving on SASI's board, I have been inspired by the tremendous growth in the number of service hours SASI has provided clients. I believe this reflects the quality and affordability of SASI's caregiving services. SASI is clearly meeting an important need, and fundraising is crucial to ensuring that SASI’s services continue to be available to our loved ones.”

“I want to dedicate this marathon not only to those receiving services from SASI,” Ben adds, “but also to the caregivers working on the front lines. And I must include SASI’s exceptional staff and volunteers!”

Needless to say, SASI’s Board and staff are delighted that Ben will be running for SASI, and wish him well as he undertakes the arduous training necessary to prepare for the 26.2-mile race.
